    Description

    [ 1 year Guarantee + Lifetime Warranty ]
2016-17 British Standard Issue (BSI #2) Kukri
For 2016-17 a total number of 242 khukuris (126 new men) are demanded by BGN (British Gurkhas Nepal) for the new enlistment (intake) of 2016-17 in which each recruit is issued with 2 khukuris; Service NO.1 (Duty/Parade knife) and Service No.2 (Training/Exercise/Combat knife). A few extra khukuris are also ordered by BGN as stock or replacement. Since due to some unknown reason NO annual tender was done, the supplier to PRI shop is straightly handed over with the making job. KHHI got hold of one of the set and reproduced it with the exact specifics and profiles, made it even better and now is offering the EXACT same (in fact better) version for the public under the limited edition series.
BSI #2 khukuri is the original 2016-17 army issue issued to the new Gurkha recruits as their training, exercise and even as a combat knife. Since it is a limited edition series each blade is stamped with BSI 2016-17 NEPAL in one side and the serial number 001, 002 and so forth in each blade as the order goes on.
    Brief late history >>
Unlike before starting from early 1990’s the British Gurkha Army for some reason started issuing 2 khukuris for each soldier /new intakes (which continues to this date). The sudden inclusion of “Service Ceremonial (no.1 khukuri)” in standard issue versions also brought the need and initiation for another rough utility knife for actually using that was later filled in by the Service No.2 or the utility knife, also known as the No.2 Sarkhari khukuri in army vocabulary. And consequently Service No.2 was made the second issue khukuri to all new recruits by army officials. Now from early 1990’s, like never before a new soldier would get 2 khukuri as per the choice and requirement of the army’s standard from the appointed local contractors. The same “Jungle” khukuri knife that soldiers bought on the own in the past was upgraded and made a part of standard issued khukuris to the Gurkhas. This action by army is primarily executed to bring more uniformity and tidiness in the army, be it in “Parade” or in “raw Terrain”. Over the years the same khukuris with the same style, profiles and making process have been issued over and over although some light changes were felt amongst the issues (not intended) due to all knives being handmade (made by different makers) and made by various suppliers (contractors) in various places. The 2016-17 BSI #2 follows the same tradition persistent from 1990s which is as one of the issues of the year designated for training, exercise and even combat.
    BSI#2 as a knife:
2016-17 British Standard Issue (BSI #2) Kukri
is a totally unpolished full-size khukuri identical to Service no.1. Since it is designed for rough use finishing (shining) is not done either in the blade or handle. This also comes as an advantage to the khukuri as the total unpolished format enhances the cutting ability and durability of the blade as losing of temper is prevent by avoiding the long machinery process undertaken to polish a blade. The unpolished horn handle of the khukuri provides better grip and easier handling too. Some BSI#2 are also camouflaged by green cotton cloth or similar materials by soldiers for warfare to ensemble with their uniform and not to attract any unwanted attention. It has a basic black colored buffalo hide leather scabbard with twin belt loop frog as seen in the picture. Brass fixtures are fitted to complete (make) the khukuri. It is an all-out all-purpose utility knife that carries the history, and also has all the characters of an assault knife.
    STAND:
A FREE foldable display stand is included with the khukuri. This totally handmade wooden display stand comes flat as all of its arms can be removed and fixed as needed. Both the blade and sheath can be displayed together on the stand as shown in the photo. The famous Gurkha insignia (two khukuris crossed to one another) is fixed on the front part of the stand in a sunken way. The profile of the badge is first carved in and fixed to the stand so that both the badge and stand are in the same level.
