Item Description:
Beautiful color book plate print of a hunting horse by celebrated illustrator Edwin Megargee. This horse has been trimmed for hunting with only the hair on the legs and under saddle being left long for protection from both the saddle and from briars and thicket during the hunt
Megargee started his art career in the 1920's and is best known for his portraits of purebred dogs. He always worked from live examples and never photos. He was said to have an almost supernatural power over his subjects in getting them into their poses
- “Indeed he has done so many horses of noble lineage, dogs of high degree, and other blooded livestock, that he can truly be called the apostle of purebreds,” said Charles Long in his AKC Gazette profile of the artist in Dec. 1934
