    Description

    Original Antique Carte de Visite Photo (CDV) 19th Century.  Monk Bar, York, England.  Photographer: W. Monkhouse Studio.  It's in good condition with a few minor signs of age which are visible in the scans.  The words “Vintage Photograph Gallery” are a digital watermark on the scan and don't appear on the actual photo.
    History:
    Monk Bar is the largest and most ornate of the bars, it dates from the early 14th century.  It was a self contained fortress, with each floor capable of being defended.
